STROKE INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM
Beginner swim team participants are those who are just coming out of our Conditioning Club or beginner swimmers 5 to 12 years old. There is an emphasis on stroke technique, turns, starts, and fun. Swimmers have shown the ability to swim in all four competitive strokes. This begins to introduce swimmers to the world of competitive swimming by building endurance through basic sets.
Swimmers will progress to more advanced developmental levels designed for those who are pursuing age-group competition and the focus will be on building more endurance and learning race skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must try out for the swim team
- Completion of Conditioning Club or Minimum Age of 5 (pending evaluation)
- Swim legal 100 yard freestyle with appropriate turns and streamlines
- Swim legal 50 backstroke with appropriate turns and streamlines
- Show basic understanding of butterfly and breaststroke
- Ability to listen and execute an independent set of instructions, as well as positively interacting with teammates
- Athletes are expected to swim a minimum of 2 YMCA meets per season
- Maintain a 67% attendance rate (2 out of every 3 practices) each month (Regular attendance at practices and meets will be required to be considered for promotion to Group 2)
