Project Update: Williams School Gym

The Williams School and the YMCA of Southern Hampton Roads have partnered to build a gymnasium on land provided by the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA, located on Bute Street, just minutes away from The Williams School campus. This partnership is estimated to cost between $1M and $1.5M to complete and would help provide a much needed athletic facility for both organizations. The new gym will allow the Blocker YMCA to expand its current programming offerings to the community and its members and will provide a safe and consistent place for Williams School students to hold daily physical education instruction, practice and host athletic games.  Additional planned uses for the facility include a space to host receptions and special and community events.

Construction of the 6,415 square foot gymnasium is scheduled to begin in early July 2017 with a projected timeline for completion of seven months.  With the partnership agreement, The Williams School will raise the funding to build the space, while the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA will support all future operating and maintenance costs.
