Changing lives through healthy lifestyles

The Y is making a better us by leaving a mark on our community's health.

The Traveling Y

We continued our efforts to take fitness outside of our four walls by partnering with Suffolk Public Schools to bring small group training and group exercise classes to teachers and bus drivers across Suffolk.

REGYMEN

We launched the Y's newest workout option, designed to provide participants with variety and new challenges. REGYMEN aims to appeal to all fitness levels, especially those looking to take their workouts to the next level in a trainer-led environment. It is the first workout of its kind for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, incorporating heart-rate training to get participants to that "after-burn".

YMCA at Town Center

With the addition of the YMCA at Town Center in January, those living in or working in and around Town Center in Virginia Beach would now have a Y location within walking distance—and for some, in their building! The YMCA at Town Center became the home of the first REGYMEN workouts, acting as a pilot location for the program.

Youth Health

Through programs that range from camp and after-school care, to youth sports and swim lessons, the Y impacted over 30,000 youth in 2018. With programming focused on living a healthy and balanced life, children and teens are given the tools they need, in any program they participate in, to stay active and keep moving!

Supporting Survivors

In 2018, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA expanded to three additional locations, giving cancer survivors the power and strength to regain their health and live beyond their disease. This life-changing program now serves survivors at four locations across the YMCA of South Hampton Roads.

Health For all

The Carvil family has faced their share of challenges in life. But through it all, Sue and her boys, John and Joseph, have found friends, support and a healthy lifestyle at their Y. Sue works on her wellness in personal training with John to not just improve her health, but to help John through his own physical challenges. Check out how this family is finding a second home at the Y.
