Virginia Beach City Public Schools has partnered with the Y to provide a preschool benefit for teachers and staff at Title I Schools. Save 10% off the published member discounted rate for YMCA preschool (Y membership not required).

YMCA Preschool offers a trusted, high-quality early childhood education program that combines a safe, nurturing environment with an intentional, research-based curriculum. Designed to promote intellectual, emotional, and social growth through the Streamin3 curriculum and aligned with VBQ5 standards, YMCA preschool prepares children for kindergarten success and a lifelong love of learning.

Children ages 3-4 will:

  • Develop strong cognitive, physical, and language skills
  • Build character through our core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Cultivate independence and self-confidence
  • Prepare for kindergarten and beyond with a solid academic foundation

How do I qualify for the VBCPS discount for YMCA preschool?

You must be a teacher or employee at a VBCPS Title I school to receive the discount. Proof of employment is required.

What locations are included?

This program is currently offered at the Salem YMCA Family Center on Salem Road in Virginia Beach and the YMCA of Portsmouth on High Street in Portsmouth.

How old does my child need to be?

This program is for children ages 3–4.

What are the preschool hours?

Salem YMCA Family Center: 6:30am–6pm
YMCA of Portsmouth: 6am–6pm 

How do I enroll?

Visit ymcashr.org/vbschools to submit your letter of approval from VBCPS. Our team will then add the discount eligibility to your YMCA account and email you with a link to register online. Prefer not to register online? Stop in at the Salem YMCA Family Center or YMCA of Portsmouth to register in person or call (757) 962-5555

Does the Y offer any financial assistance?

The Y offers assistance up to 40% off member and nonmember rates based on demonstrated financial need through the Open Doors program. Open Doors discounts may not be combined with the VBCPS Title I discount, but may be chosen instead if you qualify. You do not need to be a VBCPS Title I school employee to qualify for Open Doors financial assistance. Visit ymcashr.org/open-doors to apply.
