Sally Smiley, 2020 Recipient of the YMCA Volunteer Service Award for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads


Sally has been volunteering with our e-Learning Academy since we started it this fall. She volunteers two days a week, helping kids get to their Zoom calls on time, with homework and with nurturing, caring and loving on them. While we were closed during the pandemic she also helped with our Pandemic Food Assistance Program where we delivered food to those in need. She helped food shop, pack boxes and deliver food. Last winter, before we closed due to COVID, we offered swimming lessons for children who may otherwise have been underserved. She was an extra set of hands to pick up and drop off the kids every week. Lastly, she is a part of our Christian Emphasis Committee that meets weekly to pray for the community and anyone on our prayer request list.
