The YMCA of South Hampton Roads Recognized as TFFC Community Partner of the Year
The YMCA of South Hampton Roads was honored to receive the Tidewater Friends of Foster Care’s Community Partner of the Year award. Anthony Walters, President and CEO, YMCA of South Hampton Roads, accepted the award commending the over 5-year partnership between the two organizations.
The Y is proud to be a place where youth can find safety and belonging. Audra Bullock, President of Tidewater Friends of Foster Care, said picking this year’s recipient was easy. “For the children we serve, the Y is a place where they can escape the hardships of being in foster care and feel like happy kids again.”
Rosemary Moyer is an 80-year-old grandmother who has fostered children for over 20 years. “I’m very grateful for the relationship between the Friends of Foster Care and the YMCA. It has benefited all of the children that have been in my care.” Rosemary has had 43 children in her care and also says that she is “eternally grateful to the Friends of Foster Care.”
Through the Y, foster youth are able to participate in Summer and Schools Out Camps, swim lessons, sports leagues, and more. This partnership provides family memberships for foster youth and their families, as well as the social workers who work on the front lines of the foster care system.
