Practicing Healthy Habits

At the Y, our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our members and staff. We are committed to providing the safest possible environment for children and adults in our programs and services, and that includes taking the necessary steps to ensure cleanliness in our facilities.

What we are doing to help prevent the spread of germs:

  • Cleaning surfaces
Staff ensure equipment and surfaces are routinely wiped down with disinfectant, and that wipes for members to use before/after they use the equipment are kept well stocked and in view. Staff wipe down equipment daily, as well as desktops, countertops, doorknobs, light switches, flush levers, partitions, sinks and countertops.

  • Ensuring effective products
We recently checked-in with the company that supplies the Y with cleaning products and reaffirmed that the products used to clean common spaces and surfaces at our Y locations are effective in preventing the spread of common viruses, including the 2019 Novel Coronavirus.

How you can help prevent the spread of germs:

  • Wipe equipment off
Although YMCA staff disinfect each piece of equipment daily, you should wipe surfaces of exercise equipment before and after use with provided disinfectant wipes.

  • Clean hands regularly
Keep hands clean by washing with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand rub. Avoid touching your face/nose.

  • Cover your cough/sneeze
Make sure to cough/sneeze into your arm or a tissue to prevent the spread of germs through the air, and be sure to wash your hands after coughing/sneezing to prevent leaving germs behind on surfaces.

  • Stay home if you are feeing unwell
Though you will be missed at the Y, we know that staying home and resting will help you recover even quicker when you are ill, and will further prevent the spread of illness.
