Y Heroes: Alexis Jones, Currituck Family YMCA
Alexis started at the Y in our Kinder Camp program and has continued to grow with us in before & after school care, and school-age summer camp. She comes fro
m a single-parent home, and her mom works long hours in law enforcement. The Y has provided a safe place for Alexis to explore new things and make friends while her mom is at work. Alexis was not a strong swimmer when she started at the Y. She was able to improve her swimming skills and earn her YMCA "green necklace" after participating in swimming lessons provided for the after-school care program. Alexis' mom has often praised the YMCA for the work we do with her child. Alexis has struggled with staying on task and controlling her behavior, but her mom has credited the Y for her steady improvement. She was even chosen to receive a scholarship and attend the First Tee last summer.
As a part of our 2017 Annual Giving Campaign, we are showcasing a different person (or family) at each of our family centers. We are calling this our Y Heroes project. This video platform is a way for us to highlight people and/or program areas that have been positively impacted by the dollars we raise as a non-profit organization and relate back to each community our Association serves.
When you give to the Y, you continue to strengthen our community and move us all forward. As the nation's leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y uses your gift to make a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood. Your gift ensures that the Y's programs and services will be open to all. Consider making a gift today. www.ymcashr.org/GIVE
