YMCA of South Hampton Roads Child Care Location Closes Temporarily to Safely Manage Covid Case

The YMCA South Hampton Roads learned late Tuesday, June 2, 2020 that a Camp Hope participant utilizing the Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA program site has tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The Y immediately instituted its COVID response protocol, including notification to parties that had direct or possible contact with the program participant. The child was in a program with 14 participants, consistent with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) protocols.

The facility has been closed and will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. A reopening date will be determined with protocols established by guidance from VDH and the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS).

Anthony Walters, President and CEO of the YMCA of South Hampton Roads stated, “Operating child care and camp programs, we know that these risks are evident and we follow the protocols outlined by the CDC, VDH and VDSS. We remain committed to following established protocols. We are treating this matter with the utmost concern, and we will continue to work with local agencies and leaders for appropriate follow up.”
